PITDC Signs MOU to Boost Biomedical Innovation

CHIAYI, TAIWAN
— To deepen the research and development capabilities of the biomedical industry in southern Taiwan and accelerate the commercialization of technological achievements, the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry Technology and Development Center (PITDC) hosted the "National Chung Cheng University × PITDC Cross-Disciplinary Cooperation Kick-off Meeting and Biomedical Technology Exchange Session" at National Chung Cheng University (CCU) on the 20th.

During the event, PITDC officially unveiled its newly established Southern Office and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with CCU. This milestone marks the beginning of an in-depth partnership focusing on biomedical technology R&D, technology verification, industry-academia collaboration, and practical industrial applications.

Moving forward, the PITDC Southern Office will serve as a vital service hub connecting universities, biomedical enterprises, and research institutions across southern Taiwan. It will provide a comprehensive suite of resources, including technology matchmaking, verification services, regulatory consulting, product development, and industry collaboration. This initiative aims to help academic and research teams establish direct cooperative channels with enterprises, accelerating the transition of research breakthroughs from the laboratory to real-world applications.

The milestone event was attended by CCU President Tsai Shao-cheng, PITDC Chairman Fan Tzu-ting, PITDC President Wang Pei-yu, representatives from the Agricultural Technology Research Institute (ATRI), and distinguished guests from academia, research, and industry. Domestic biomedical enterprises were also invited to participate in technology exchanges and demand matchmaking. By sharing research outcomes, discussing industry needs, and facilitating professional services, the event successfully strengthened the linkages between academic research, institutional resources, and industrial application, laying a solid foundation for future collaborations.

CCU President Tsai Shao-cheng stated that beyond their missions of teaching and academic research, universities must actively forge partnerships with industries and research institutions to ensure that academic breakthroughs address real industrial and societal needs. President Tsai emphasized that while the semiconductor industry serves as Taiwan's primary "economic shield" (sacred mountain protecting the nation), the biomedical sector is destined to become Taiwan's future "shielding mountain range."

He noted that biomedicine is not an isolated sector, but a robust ecosystem tightly integrated by numerous manufacturers and supply chains. This interconnected network will serve as the crucial foundation for Taiwan's next trillion-NT-dollar industry. Tsai expressed his hope that through the tripartite cooperation of academia, research institutions, and industry, comprehensive support will be injected into R&D processes and product capabilities, allowing Taiwan's biomedical achievements to continue shining on the global stage.

The signing of the MOU and the establishment of the PITDC Southern Office on the CCU campus will facilitate a closer, highly regularized cooperation mechanism. This strategic alignment will expand communication channels between research teams, institutions, and enterprises, driving cross-disciplinary research and technology translation while creating significantly more practical application and development opportunities for biomedical research at the university.
