▲Introduction/Features
MTS assay is commonly used in toxicology to test the level of cytotoxicity of certain toxic chemicals. The theory is that the mitochondrial NAPDH dehydrogenase in living cells can convert chemical agent MTS to a soluble and quantitative light-absorbent dye, formazan. Because dead cells do not have that enzyme activity, they can be used as indicators of cell viability. When applying cell culture techniques for MTS assays, the medical devices- or its extracts-induced cell death, cell growth inhibition, and other effects can be tested.
▲Technical advantages
MTT cell viability test, MTS assays do not require washing and lysis of cells, allowing direct observation of results, and adding any reagents, like DMSO. The assay needs less operation time and experiment costs and have more stable results.
▲Scope of application
It can rapidly screen whether the testing substance is cytotoxic, or whether the cancer cells can be caused to death or growth inhibition.
